Yes, as long as it is an EPA approved unit. Unless you are located in the city limits of Santa Rosa.

If you are building in the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the answer is no. If you are building in the Northern Sonoma County Air Quality District, the answer is yes!

Bay Area Air Quality Management District residents who begin a chimney or fireplace remodeling project that costs over $15,000 and requires a building permit will only be allowed to install a gas-fueled, electric or EPA-certified device.
